The car
Arcfox is the premium electric car brand of China's BAIC Group, and the T1 is the first Arcfox model announced for Brunei. It is 4,337 mm long, 1,860 mm wide and 1,572 mm tall on a 2,770 mm wheelbase, weighs 1,420 kg and has a 459-litre boot. The front-mounted motor produces 70 kW (95 PS) and 176 Nm, with a top speed of 140 km/h, so the T1 is set up for town and highway commuting rather than outright pace.
Equipment highlighted for Brunei includes a large touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, driver assistance (ADAS), multiple airbags and a panoramic sunroof.
The catch: booking before the price is set
The T1 is taking bookings on an estimated price, and "the B$20,000s" covers a range of almost B$10,000. Anyone booking now is committing before knowing the final figure. Before paying a booking fee, ask T.C.Y. Motors for the booking amount in writing, whether it is fully refundable if the confirmed price comes in higher than expected, and whether the confirmed price will include on-the-road costs. Warranty terms for the T1 have not yet been published either, so ask about those too.
