Chinese Car Brands in Brunei

Nineteen Chinese car brands are on sale new in Brunei as of September 2026, sold through nine authorised dealers. The newest is Chery, which opened its Brunei showroom in September 2026. The biggest single presence is GWM at Berjaya's GWM Brunei Experience Centre, which alone accounts for five brands: Haval, Ora, Poer, Tank and Wey. BYD and Denza sit with Maju Motors, MG and Wuling with Premier Motor, and Deepal, Avatr and Jetour with Best Auto. Four more Chinese brands are announced but not yet on sale.

That is nineteen brands, but not nineteen showrooms to visit. GWM's five brands all come from one manufacturer and are sold by one distributor from one experience centre, so the nineteen brands work out to fifteen dealers to deal with. If you are planning showroom visits rather than counting badges, fifteen is the number that matters. Everything in this table was checked with the dealers in September 2026.

Four more Chinese brands have a named Brunei distributor but are not on sale yet. None of them can be bought new today, and none is counted in the nineteen above.

XPeng is the most significant of the four. Imperial Motors, part of the Inchcape group, has been appointed official distributor, with the signing held at XPeng's headquarters in Guangzhou and models due by the final quarter of 2026. XPeng will be housed at the Bravo Auto showroom at Katok Point, alongside Subaru. Inchcape is anything but a new arrival to this market: it also distributes Toyota and Lexus in Brunei through NBT Brunei, which makes XPeng the first Chinese brand here to sit inside one of the country's long-established dealer groups rather than with a newer or single-brand operation.

Forthing has Lau Motors appointed as official distributor with immediate effect, and the Forthing Friday SUV named among the models coming. Expect it between late Q4 2026 and early Q1 2027.

Omoda is expected at Grand Motors between late Q4 2026 and early Q1 2027. Grand Motors already sells Jaecoo, its Chery Group stablemate, from the same Beribi showroom.

Arcfox is a BAIC Group brand, a natural fit alongside the BAIC range T.C.Y. Motors already carries in Kiarong. The dealer stated September 2026, and as of publication it has not yet launched.

Chery is the most recent Chinese brand to start selling in Brunei. Bee Motors Sdn Bhd launched the brand and opened a showroom at OneCity Shopping Centre in Sungai Hanching in September 2026, with the Tiggo range as the opening lineup, including the Tiggo 7 PHEV and Tiggo Cross. A larger 3S site, combining sales, service and spare parts, has been announced but not opened.

Chery matters beyond being one more name on the list. Two Chery Group brands were already sold here, Jaecoo at Grand Motors and Jetour at Best Auto, so the obvious expectation was that one of those two would take the mainstream Chery range as well. Neither did. It went instead to Bee Motors, a dealer that had never appeared in the car-distribution picture until now.

GWM is the largest Chinese presence in Brunei by brand count. Berjaya Sdn Bhd operates the GWM Brunei Experience Centre at Beribi Industrial Complex II, carrying Haval, Ora, Poer, Tank and Wey, five separate brands from one manufacturer. Kuala Belait has its own GWM Experience Centre on Jalan Panglima, and GWM also runs pop-up displays at supermarkets and malls around the country, so these are the Chinese cars you are most likely to encounter outside a traditional showroom.

The practical point for a buyer: searching "Haval Brunei" and searching "Tank Brunei" lead to the same dealer, the same sales team and the same after-sales operation.

Premier Motors holds MG and Wuling, alongside Ford, selling from Beribi and from Sungai Duhon in Belait. MG matters here because the distributorship changed hands in February 2026, moving from GHK Motors to Premier Motor. GHK still has leftover MG stock, which is real and buyable, but GHK is no longer the authorised MG dealer. Anything about warranty, parts or new supply routes through Premier Motor. MG is grouped here as Chinese because it is SAIC-owned and trades as a Chinese brand in this market, despite the British heritage in the badge. Maxus, also SAIC, sits with a different dealer entirely.

Best Auto carries Deepal, Avatr and Jetour, spread across three separate locations rather than one showroom: Deepal at Setia Point in Berakas, Avatr at The Mall in Gadong and Jetour at Times Square Shopping Centre in Berakas. A dedicated Jetour centre in Gadong is scheduled to open by late 2026. Until then, a Jetour buyer and a Deepal buyer visit different parts of the country to see the same company.

Best Auto is a sister company of Maju Motors, and its three brands are serviced through Maju's Telanai service centre. That connection matters more than it looks: between the two companies, one dealer group handles five Chinese brands, BYD and Denza at Maju Motors from Jalan Telanai, and Deepal, Avatr and Jetour at Best Auto. Denza is BYD's upmarket line rather than a rival to it, so the pairing at Maju mirrors the relationship those two brands have globally.

Grand Motors carries Jaecoo from its Beribi showroom, alongside Kia, with Omoda announced. T.C.Y. Motors carries BAIC and Foton from a shared showroom in Kiarong, alongside Audi and Skoda, with Arcfox announced. GHK Motors carries GAC and Maxus from Beribi with a Kuala Belait branch. Daha Auto, part of the GHK Group, launched JMEV in Brunei in July 2026 with an event at The Mall Gadong.

Of the eight dealers we have full brand lists for, five carry Chinese brands inside a mixed portfolio: GHK Motors alongside Mitsubishi and Perodua, Grand Motors alongside Kia, T.C.Y. Motors alongside Audi and Skoda, Premier Motor alongside Ford, and Maju Motors alongside Renault. Three sell Chinese brands and nothing else: GWM Brunei is a single-manufacturer centre covering all five GWM brands, Daha Auto sells JMEV only, and Best Auto carries Deepal, Avatr and Jetour. Bee Motors' wider lineup is not yet mapped, so we have not assigned it a side.

That split changes what a showroom visit gets you. At the five mixed dealers, a Chinese model sits on a floor that also holds a non-Chinese alternative, so the comparison happens in one place. At the others it cannot, and the cross-shopping has to happen somewhere else.

A list of Chinese brands sold in Brunei is not a list of Chinese cars on Brunei roads, and this list moves in both directions. While four brands are arriving, three have already left, all dealer-confirmed. DFSK was sold through T.C.Y. Motors and is no longer offered. Neta was on sale here and is confirmed gone, with its parent company in bankruptcy restructuring in China since mid-2025. Changan was sold through GHK Motors, GHK stopped, and no successor distributor exists. In all three cases the cars bought new from those showrooms are still on Brunei roads with no authorised dealer behind them for warranty work or franchised parts.

Changan shows how oddly a brand can leave. Changan-badged cars are no longer sold new in Brunei, yet Deepal, Changan's own electric brand, is on sale at Best Auto. The company did not leave the country; the badge did. For a buyer that distinction is everything, because owning the badge that left means owning a car with no authorised support, while the showroom selling its sibling brand sits open across town.

Chery is the reason we no longer guess at these relationships. Chery Group already had two brands here, so the reasonable assumption was that Chery itself would arrive through Grand Motors or Best Auto. It arrived through neither. Group presence turned out to say nothing useful about who would hold the franchise, which is worth remembering for the four Chinese brands that still have no confirmed Brunei dealer at all: Geely, Zeekr, Leapmotor and Hongqi. We are not publishing a verdict on those four until a dealer confirms one. Saying a brand is not sold here when it quietly is, or the reverse, is a visible error to anyone who owns one.
